Tweet Performs Latest Solo Album “Charlene” @ City Winery

Lovenoise has the spring/summer on a roll.  The Southern Hummingbird – Tweet – was at the City Winery for two shows, a show that began promptly at 7pm and a 2nd show was later added that was slated to begin at 9pm.  I attended the  7pm performance and enjoyed Tweet perform a few songs from Southern Hummingbird, but mainly, she performed songs from her most recent album “Charlene.”  Better pictures and a video snippet below!

I really enjoyed her old album Southern Hummingbird, as well as this new album “Charlene.”  Tweet sings quality music and she sounds great live. Tweet performed like she never left the stage; she has such a great spirit and can sing her face off.  She definitely took us to church a few times as well with the call and response type of songs.  Tweet mentioned several times that she was done singing music, but that she decided she wanted to use her music to inspire and that SHE’S BACK.   It’s been 6 years since her last album, can you believe it and she still draws a crowd.   I also loved her outfit and be sure to check out those boots.  I think we had a rowdy crowd because there was a few times that she responded back to the crowd, paused for the crowd to stop clapping, or stopped and looked to see who was screaming her name.

Here’s an excerpt from the Facebook invite about Tweet’s last six years away from the spotlight and her album “Charlene:”

“Tweet says that Charlene will illustrate how much her personal and professional experiences have shaped her. “I’ve evolved as a woman and I am much more wiser now. As an artist, I’ve totally matured vocally,” says Tweet. “I’m comfortable with myself and I don’t care what anyone thinks anymore. I still write about what’s going on my life, but now I have more creative freedom and my lyrics have more depth.” The album also has a throwback feel, sprinkled with what influenced Tweet growing up. “With state of R&B these days, you have to go back to the pioneers, and that’s all I listen to—Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin. You have to back to the beginning, the basics. That’s what I did with Charlene. I went back to what influenced me to do music in the first place.”

Charlene Keys has come a long way. A few years ago, she was on the verge of giving up on the music business, but today she stands stronger than ever. A bolder, wiser, happier Tweet. She says her faith in God is what turned her life around. “There is not a day that goes by that I don’t talk to Him,” she expresses. “I’m not perfect and I don’t always do everything right, but because of Him, I’m still here and that’s an amazing blessing. He is my strength, my source, and I couldn’t have done any of this without Him.”

I share the same sentiments Tweet – do you unapologetically!

Here’s a quick snippet of Tweet performing my favorite song”My Place” from her album Southern Hummingbird:

I can’t take credit for the pictures or the video – my good friend Decarlos Askew had the best seats in the house and was gracious enough to let us use his pictures for the blog.  Thank bud!

If you’ve never been to City Winery, it’s over near the rescue mission off Lafayette, near the new bus station.  They make some of their wine in house, and part of the back side of the building are the wine barrels.  They give tours and host wine tastings so be sure to check out their website to see what’s going on.   It’s definitely a nice place grab a glass of wine and unwind.

Definitely glad to be in the building and support Lovenoise, Tweet, and City Winery.

I’m working hard to get your guys quality and consistent content.  If you could subscribe here, it would really help me out – LINK HERE

If you went to the show – did you enjoy it?  Let me know in the comments, don’t be shy!  We growing –
