What’s Been Up with Nashvillesocialbutterfly?

Hey Yall — KB here!
This blog post is catching up with some and introducing myself to others.  It’s been almost a year since I’ve blogged and I’ve missed it terribly.  So let’s get started!

My name is Karla Burnett but a lot of people call me KB.  In my former life, I spent the last five years as a Corporate Project Manager prior to launching my blog in 2016   At that point in my life I was 34, and really determining who I wanted to be as a woman.  All the years up until that point I thought I
wanted to be a mother, a wife, and a successful business executive and everything seemed to be moving along quite nicely.

On the outside.

On the inside I was miserable.  I felt empty and often cried in the car before dragging myself into the office.  My mental and emotional health was suffering.  My problem was that I was in an environment that did not allow me to stay true to myself. I was tired of the level of code switching required to maintain my status and I no longer wanted to conform.

I wanted to discover Karla.

I launched Nashvillesocialbutterfly.com January 2016 as a creative outlet and a pivot into a new career direction.  With a business savvy mind, I saw many opportunities to be a successful Influencer.  After a few sponsored gigs I got super excited (and super naive) and left my role in corporate america to pursue my own paid opportunities.

As soon my decision to leave Corporate America was final (about a few hours later) the world instantly became larger.  No longer was I at the mercy of the four corner of an office department.  Literally I can sell products and services to anyone in the WORLD. (via the)WIDE WEB.

All of 2017 I spent my time pitching for creative jobs that fit my skill set – Social Media Manager, Virtual Assistant, Blogger//Copywriter, and even a substitute teacher.  I’ll definitely be telling those stories as I get back into the blogging game.
After almost six months of freelancing I could see the inevitable on the horizon; I missed the security and size of my paycheck with a traditional job.
With a tight job marketing in Nashville it took me over six months of interviews to find and land a job that I could see working for the for the foreseeable future.
Currently I work for a staffing agency where I am the Account Executive tasked with finding jobs for Creative Professionals.  It is very similar to my life in freelance world, expect I pitch a database full of creatives and skill sets instead of just myself.
My clients are marketing managers and creative directors in the Greater Nashville area… the same target clients I had as a creative freelancer and the same audience I have as a blogger.   I now see how life is not a coincidence and you usually end up right where you are supposed to be.
Now I am skeptical to say I love any job, however, after having been in the workforce for over half my life, I can truly say that I LOVE my job.
When my boss comes in town,  he hugs me and tell me I am a blessing.  I have autonomous authority over my business and a fabulous working space in downtown Nashville. I have met the CFO and CMO and I have not been with the company a full year.

Not only that, but I am celebrated for being exactly who I am – which is the most important factor for me.

Sometimes your gifts are stifled and need to be freed in order to find your passions.   Sometimes, you just need a change of scenery.

So that’s what I’ve been up to.  I can’t wait to share with you everything that has happened in between!

Where are you in your journey?  Do you need freedom or just a change of scenery?
